Oil for Beauty

When winter rolls around I tend to use a lot more oil in my simple beauty routines. Oil can be used in many aspects to help your skin and hair. Here are two of my favorite tips.

1. Hair: Oil used as a beauty treatment is an age old tradition. East Indian women use it several times a week and nobody can deny their lovely hair. Here’s a tip for giving yourself hair and scalp a massage using hair oil. If you hair is already oil or prone to being weighted down you may find sunflower or jojoba oil a good choice. First warm your bottle of chosen hair oil in a little warm water. Then pour a tablespoons (you may want to use your hands for a transfer) or so onto the top of your head. Using the pads of your fingertips massage the hair into your scalp using your fingers to draw the oil down the rest of your hair strands.  Go over your entire head.  Starting at your roots with the pads of your fingertips. This way you will keep from tangling your hair. At this point you can do a few things. Wrap your hair in a warm towel and wash it about an hour later or leave the oil on until morning and then wash it out. Many who use this type of oil treatment regularly notice an increase in the look and feel of their hair. I think the regular head massage has some to do with it too.

2. Skin: I’ve had this book, How Do I Look?, in my personal library for years . In it Gayle Hayman goes over every aspect of creating a more beautiful you with tips from her Hollywood years. She gives a great tip for you to put into practice this winter. Keep a small bottle of oil ( I keep a sample sized bottle of NWscents) near your sink (I keep mine near the kitchen sink) and before you put on your gloves for washing dishes apply a drop of oil to them. They get a deep moisturizing treatment while you wash the dishes.

So put these two great tips to work for lovely hands and hair.

Have a beautiful winter!
